MEDIA SPOTLIGHT – A gang of kidnappers abducted the son of Würth Group founder Reinhold Würth and demanded a £1.5 million ransom before “losing their nerve and leaving him tied to a tree,” The Mirror reports.

Markus Würth, 50, reportedly was seized by masked men from the home for the mentally disabled where he lives in Germany.

The event sparked “intensive search measures” involving 40 police officers, 50 firefighters and search dogs.

“Police believe (the kidnappers) panicked when they learned of the huge scale police operation and left him chained to a tree in a forest near Würzburg,” The Mirror reports. They sent the police GPS coordinates of where to find Markus Würth.

Police are continuing to investigation the crime.

“Known in Germany as the Schrauben-König, or ‘Screw-King’ in reference to the family hardware business that made him rich, (Reinhold) Würth is estimated to be worth $7.4 billion,” according to The Mirror.

Würth Group has annual revenues of €10 billion and employs more than 63,000 people.
