WAFD Offers RoHS Conference at 2005 Las Vegas
John Wolz
The Western Association of Fastener Distributors will conduct a conference on Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) in conjunction with the National Industrial Fastener Show. The one-day conference will be on Wednesday, November 16, in Las Vegas.
Scheduled panelists are Brian Lowry, vice president/technical services, Curtis Metal Finishing Company; Mark Larson, general manager, State Industrial Supply; and Jim Riley, COO, Stork Materials Testing & Inspection.
Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE), End of Life Vehicle Directive (EOLVD) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) are European standards prohibiting certain heavy metals in landfills beginning in 2006. If fasteners you sell end up in European products you will soon be required by customers to supply product that does not contain certain metals. Hexavalent chromium is one of the biggest problems because the metal is found in many fastener coatings.
Panelists will discuss alternatives and how to comply with European standards.
Registration information is available online at fastenershows.com. For conference information contact WAFD executive director Vickie Lester. E-mail: wafdhq@aol.com Web: wafd.org
