U.S. Industrial Fastener Exports Slip

U.S. fastener imports increased in April, while exports saw a slight decline.
Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. grew 5% to $406.8 million in April, boosted by strong gains in product from China.
The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during April were Taiwan (up 5.3% month-to-month to $125.3 million); China (up 30% to $87.5 million);Japan (down 3.% to $59.4 million); Germany (up 4.8% to $28.4 million); and Canada (up 2.5% to $26.7 million), Zepol reports.
U.S. fastener exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) declined 1% to $316.7 million in April, hurt by declining demand in China and the UK.
The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in April were Mexico (up 0.4% month-to-month to $100.7 million); Canada (up 3.7% to $94.1 million); China (down 7% to $12.3 million); the UK (down 18.6% to $11.7 million); and Germany (up 3% to $10.2 million), according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
U.S. fastener exports and imports achieved modest growth in the opening quarter of 2014. Exports of U.S. fasteners rose 5.5% during the first three months of the year, while imports grew 7.25%.
This data was derived from Zepol’s trade intelligence tool, TradeView, using U.S. import and export trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in the Merchandise Trade dataset.
