U.S. Fastener Insignias Due for Renewal
John Wolz
It is renewal year for the many fastener manufacturers who initially registered their insignia with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in 1996. The five-year registrations were renewed in 2001 and are due again in 2006.
Bruce Meade of FastenerMetallurgy.com noted many of the applications were in preparation for the impending U.S. Fastener Quality Act. “Due to the requirements of the law, these insignia must be renewed every five years,” Meade reminded manufacturers. “That means that manufacturers need to be reminded to renew their identification marks this year. Maintaining the registry is important for everyone. Failure to do so could result in noncompliance with the law.”
Information and applications are available online: uspto.gov/web/offices/tac/fqa/index.html.
The FQA Public Law 101-592 was signed into law in 1990 by then president George H.W. Bush and last amended by P.L. 106-34 signed by president Bill Clinton in 1999. The FQA requires registration of active fastener insignias.
