U.S. Fastener Exports Flat, Imports Up for 2015

For 2015, U.S. fastener exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) edged down 0.2% to $3.83 billion, according to data compiled by GlobalFastenerNews.com.

Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. increased 2.1% to $4.98 billion during 2015.

U.S. fastener exports declined in December for a second straight month, while imports rose.

U.S. fastener exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) fell 6% to $288.1 million in December, despite gains in China, the UK and France, according to Datamyne data analyzed by GlobalFastenerNews.com.

The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in December were Mexico (down 11.5% month-to-month to $97.15 million); Canada (down 10.2% to $71.8 million); China (up 14.5% to $15.3 million); the UK (up 12.6% to $13.4 million); and France (at $8.54 million), according to Datamyne.

Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. increased 5% in December to $359.35 million, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during December were Taiwan (up 5.6% month-to-month to $113.1 million); China (up 10.7% to $79.8 million); Japan (up 12.5% to $51.6 million); Germany (up 1.3% to $24.1 million); and Canada (down 17.8% to $18.4 million).

This data is derived from Datamyne using U.S. import and export trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in the Merchandise Trade dataset.
