TR Fastenings Supports London EV Taxi Transition
TR Fastenings has played a key role in supporting the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) in transiting from traditional combustion engine taxis to electric vehicles, Manufacturing & Engineering Magazine reports.
As demand for EVs continues to grow, automotive supply chains are under pressure to adapt and find new ways of working. TR Fastenings was approached by LEVC with a time-critical problem, and quickly stepped in to help keep production moving smoothly.
LEVC, part of the Geely Group, needed a reliable automotive components provider to supply a consistent and seamless service in their just-in-time production environment. TR Fastenings was selected as supplier due to its extensive experience in designing and manufacturing fasteners for automotive applications.
TR’s design and engineering teams worked closely with LEVC to understand their specific needs and requirements, according to Manufacturing & Engineering. They conducted an internal review to streamline and rationalize the number of parts used, eliminating bespoke special parts where feasible. TR now provides approximately 350 components used in LEVC vehicles, as well as components for other Geely Group companies.
One of the key challenges faced by LEVC was the previous provider’s inability to meet project demands, which threatened the production of the new electric taxis. TR Fastenings was able to step in and provide immediate support, working closely with LEVC’s engineers and ensuring a seamless transition. Critical stock supply was resumed and production continued without any disruptions.
TR Fastenings’ comprehensive, full-service approach and close collaboration prevented manufacturing disruptions and established a lasting relationship. The company showcased the LEVC electric taxi at the recent Automechanika Show in Birmingham, generating great interest and highlighting their capabilities in the fast-growing EV market.
