“Our plate, bar, and structural mills were strong contributors in the first quarter, and several of our downstream businesses also increased earnings as compared to the year ago period,” said CEO John Ferriola.
Nucor called POK “a natural fit” for its existing cold finish businesses, including Nucor Fastener and Nucor’s recently acquired cold finish facility in Monterrey.
Third-quarter net earnings more than doubled, buoyed by U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum.
As part of its investment, Nucor is working with Trion Coatings to commercialize the technology and will be constructing a pilot facility at Nucor Fastener in St. Joe, IN.
Downstream steel products shipments to outside customers decreased 3% from the fourth quarter of 2016 and increased 3% from the first quarter of 2016.
