“The daily sales decline of fasteners reflects the continued softness of the manufacturing and construction markets, but is improved on the 16.4% daily sales decline of fasteners experienced in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the second quarter of 2019,” the company stated.

“March sales of our fastener products declined 10.1% on a daily basis as industrial activity slowed, while our safety business grew 31.0% on a daily basis as we were able to source and deliver critical personal protective equipment ('PPE') supplies to the marketplace,” the company stated.
A battery electric Freightliner eM2 straight truck began service in the Fastenal fleet in early January, making deliveries to 28 Fastenal branches and Onsite locations in the Los Angeles metro area.
Fastenal reported fastener sales increased 1.6% in February, compared with a 1.3% rate of growth the previous month. Sales of other products grew 6.9%.
Fastener sales grew 1.8% in the fourth quarter of 2019, compared to a 5.1% increase in sales of non-fastener products. Full-year fastener sales figures will be released in April when the company publishes its annual report.
By end market, overall sales to manufacturing customers rose 7.5%, while sales to non-residential construction customers climbed 5% in November.
Designed by The Kubala Washatko Architects, the four-story building will fill a city block and house 400-600 workers in Fastenal’s technology, accounting, supply chain and human resources departments.
Fastenal’s Onsite service began in 1992, when a large manufacturing plant required more inventory than the local public branch could stock.
“While we successfully raised prices as one element of our strategy to offset tariffs placed to date on products sourced from China, those increases were not sufficient to also counter general inflation in the marketplace.”
Fastenal Co. reported fastener sales declined 2.6% to $449.7 million (32.9% of overall sales) in the opening quarter of 2020.
By end market, sales to manufacturing customers rose 7.4%, and sales to non-residential construction customers climbed 8.3% in April.
Daily sales of fastener products increased to 13.5% in March, compared to a 12.4% rate of growth in March 2018.
Overall Fastenal sales increased 10.5% to $411.9 million in February, while daily sales grew 10.5% to $20.6 million during February.
“Tariffs had a small impact on sales and profits in 4Q18, but a greater impact on our inventory growth,” the company stated. “Discussions with customers about addressing tariffs have been encouraging.”
Fastenal warned that “challenges remain from inflationary pressures and new tariffs on Chinese-sourced goods.”
Consolidated sales increased 13.1% to $1.28 billion, driven by higher unit sales and contributions from industrial vending and onsite locations.
