Anixter’s OEM Supply segment, including fasteners, reported a 9.5% rise in revenue to $1.1 billion during 2008. OEM Supply sales in North America grew to $517 million, while sales in Europe reached $583 million.
In mid-2008 Anixter paid a combined $78.8 million to acquire two fastener operations: Wood Dale, IL-based QSN Industries Inc. and sister company, Quality Screw de Mexico SA.
Founded in 1977, QSN is a distributor and manufacturer of fasteners to the automotive, appliance, lawn and garden, HVAC, telecom and electrical OEMs.
QSN operates 13 facilities in Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Its sole manufacturing facility is located in Wood Dale. Web: qsn.com
Headquartered in Aguascalientes, Mexico, Quality Screw distributes fasteners through five operational sites in Mexico.
“These acquisitions leverage our existing infrastructure and
bring an important new critical mass to our North American OEM Supply business by adding locations in Mexico as well as manufacturing capacity,” stated CEO Bob Eck.
Anixter continued to expand its fastener holdings by spending $40 million to acquire two EU fastener distributors.
The company bought Sofrasar SA of France, for $20.7 million; and Germany-based Camille Gergen for $19.4 million. Combined annual sales are $110 million.
In 2007 Anixter bought UK-based aerospace fastener distributor Eurofast SAS for $27 million and fastener distributor Total Supply Solutions Ltd. for $8 million.
Anixter began building its fastener business in 2002 by acquiring Pentacon for $111.4 million. After Pentacon, AFS bought Walters Hexagon in 2003, DDI in 2004, Infast in 2005 and MFU in 2006.
Anixter distributes of 425,000 wiring systems and networking products to active 100,000 customers.
