STAFDA to Publish Disaster Guide; Adds Assistance to Stranded Members

John Wolz

The Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association will publish a “What-to-Do-When-a-Disaster-Strikes-Your-Company” manual, executive director Georgia Foley announced.

After Hurricane Ike, STAFDA received a call from a Texas distributor member asking if they could notify key vendors on how to reach them, Foley told members. STAFDA sent out an email blast to the distributor’s list.

“One of their vendors then contacted us and suggested STAFDA be the conduit for associates to reach affected distributors and vice versa,” Foley said.
STAFDA attempted to contact members after Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, but with phone systems out, no electricity and limited email, “it became impossible for us to check on members’ whereabouts,” she noted.

Distributor, associate or rep members affected by a disaster can contact the STAFDA office to pass messages, Foley announced.

Mike Foster, disaster planning expert, and Doug Austin of Sentry Insurance are preparing the manual.
