The following is a press release provided to GlobalFastenerNews.com. Contact the individual company for additional information.

SPIROL is the largest manufacturer of stainless steel Spring Pins. SPIROL Slotted Spring Pins and Coiled Spring Pins are offered in the following stainless steels:

420 Stainless Steel: Type 420 martensitic (chrome) stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance and excellent strength and fatigue properties.  Type 420 stainless steel is not as corrosion resistant as Type 302/304 austenitic stainless steel, but it withstands the most common atmospheric and environmental conditions.  Maximum service temperature for 420 stainless steel Spring Pins should be restricted to 200°C (400°F).  Type 420 stainless steel Spring Pins are hardened and stress relieved to achieve strength and fatigue resistance similar to that of high carbon steel Spring Pins.

302/304 Stainless Steel: Commonly referred to as 18-8, Type 302/304 austenitic (nickel) stainless steel provides better corrosion protection against normal environmental conditions than Type 420.  It withstands fresh water and atmospheric marine conditions very well, and is suitable for many other industrial conditions.  However, this material is not as strong as Type 420 stainless steel and does not have the same fatigue resistance.  Maximum service temperature for Type 302/304 stainless steel Spring Pins should be restricted to 300°C (575°F).

316 Stainless Steel:  All 300 series stainless steels are considered to have high corrosion resistance, but Type 316 is known to have superior resistance to corrosion.  While Type 302 and 304’s corrosion resistance meets most application requirements, they tend to corrode in more severe environments where Type 316 does not—such as when submerged in sea water and when used in the petrochemical industry.
