Spaenaur Cuts Workforce

Canadian fastener distributor Spaenaur Inc. has shed 106 employees, or 42% of its workforce, in 2003, according to The Kitchener-Waterloo Record. Spaenaur spokesman Teri Howells stated that the cuts, including 26 people who were let go on Nov. 17, were part of a reorganization intended to make the company more efficient and customer focused. Of the 106 workers, 60 had their employment “terminated,” 25 were contract workers whose contracts were not renewed, and 21 quit on their own. Spaenaur now employs about 145 people.
President Jonathan Spaetzel told The Record that the reduction was definitely dramatic, but he emphasized that “business has never been better.”
