Pac-West Disaster Planning Session: Generators Not So Expensive After All
FEATURE
Hurricane Sandy demonstrated the importance of generators to Star Stainless Screw Co., Tim Roberto Jr. told the Pacific-West Fastener Association.
Prior to the 2012 hurricane key people questioned the expense of the generator at Star’s New Jersey facility, Roberto recalled. Subsequently, Star Stainless has even upgraded its “Jenny the generator.”
The hurricane knocked out the power to Star Stainless’ New Jersey facility for eight days, panelist Roberto noted during a Pac-West session on Disaster Planning.
Andy Cohn of Duncan Bolt Company added that it is important not just to have a generator, but also to “test it twice a month” and have sufficient fuel available.
• Jennifer Harder said Empire Bolt & Screw Inc. began serious disaster planning when a customer required the distributor to submit a plan. Empire started with the disaster planning manual the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association published recently.
• When the power went out at WCL Company, Kelly Cole found “number one is answering something to customers.”
• Today it is easy to have backup systems for your computers, panelist Hans Fuller of Fuller Metric demonstrated. Replicating can be done instantly or after working hours, Fuller explained.
