Nucor Corp. Sales & Profit Drop in Q3

Nucor Corp. reported sales reached $4.8 billion in the third quarter of 2012 — down 6% from the previous quarter and 9% compared to the third quarter of 2011.
Q3 net earnings totaled $110.3 million, down 1.7% from the previous quarter and 39% from the third quarter of 2011.
Q3 results included non-cash inventory related purchase accounting charges of approximately $28.2 million for the previous-quarter acquisition of Skyline Steel LLC, as well as a loss on the sale of the assets of Nucor Wire Products Pennsylvania of $17.6 million.
Sales during the first nine months of 2012 decreased 1% to $14.98 billion. Total tons shipped to outside customers increased 1% over the first nine months of 2011, while average sales price per ton decreased 3%. Nine-month consolidated earnings fell 42% to $367.7 million.
