Without the National Fastener Distributors Association holding its fall meeting in conjunction with the show and with a sagging economy plus the events of September 11, 2001, attendee registration for the November 16, 2001, National Industrial Fastener Show/West slipped 34.9% from the 2000 show.
According to preliminary numbers announced by show general partner Jim Bannister, attendee registration totaled 1,516, down from 2,329 last year.
The numbers include distributors, nonexhibiting manufacturers and importers, independent and manufacturer reps, forming/colder, media and miscellaneous categories, but do not include exhibitor staff or spouse/guest registration.
Overall registration jumped from 3,800 in 1999 to 4,525 in 2000 when the NFDA brought in Colin Powell as the keynote speaker.
Overall registration for 2001 has not yet been announced.
Show managements unaudited numbers include advance and onsite registrations. Show management does not use a verified system to determine actual attendance.
Despite the economy, the number of booths at the show continues to grow. There were 435 in 1999, 550 in 2000 and 611 occupied booths this year.
Show management announced that the 2002 show will expand to a day and a half. The show will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2002, and 9 a.m. to 1 p. m. Friday.
