June U.S. Fastener Imports & Exports Drop

Both U.S. fastener exports and imports declined in June.
Exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) from the U.S. fell 4% to $323.6 million in June, after rising 6% the previous month, Zepol reports.
The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in June were Mexico (down 4.1% month-to-month to $108.9 million); Canada (down 5.5% to $94.4 million); the UK (down 5.2% to $12.8 million); China (up 1.7% to $11.8 million); and Australia, which replaced Germany in the top five listing with $9.7 million, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. declined 1% to $415.05 million in June.
The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. in June were Taiwan (down slightly month-to-month to $124.4 million); China (up 1% to $106 million); Japan (down 3% to $53 million); Germany (down 5.5% to $27.2 million); and Canada (down 3.5% to $25.1 million), Zepol reports.
In the opening quarter of 2014, U.S. fastener exports and imports achieved modest growth, with exports rising 5.5% and imports up 7.25%.
