IFI Publishes Titanium Fastener Surface Condition Standard
The Industrial Fasteners Institute published a new standard for evaluating titanium fasteners.
The standard is titled “IFI-311 Procedure for Metallographic Preparation and Evaluation of Surface Contamination on Titanium 6A1 – 4V Fasteners.”
IFI-311provides steps for the preparation and evaluation of titanium fasteners for surface contamination following heat treatment.
The most common kind of contamination is referred to as Alpha case. The standard contains five color photos making understanding of the appearance of various conditions very easy.
Copies of the standard are available from the IFI online store: indfast.org. For information e-mail: techinfo@indfast.org ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
