Alcoa praises Boeing employees on achieving the commercial aviation milestone of manufacturing the 1000th 777 aircraft.
The 777 has about 3 million parts provided by 500 suppliers, including Alcoa Fastening Systems. Nearly one million fasteners, including internally and externally threaded, are used in each plane, bringing the total number of fasteners used in 777 production to approximately 1 billion.
“We are proud to have been a part of the Boeing 777 program since its inception through to this historic moment… and beyond,” said Olivier Jarrault, Group President Alcoa Engineered Products and Solutions and leader of Alcoa’s aerospace market team.
“With a backlog of almost 400 planes – and many, many more orders likely to come for this successful program – we look forward to continuing to deliver high-value solutions that increase fuel efficiency and lower operating and maintenance costs.”
Alcoa supplies parts to the 777 from the following locations: Tucson and Chandler, Arizona; Carson, City of Industry, Fullerton, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Sylmar, and Torrance, Calif.; Branford, CT; Lafayette, IN; Davenport, Iowa; Whitehall, Michigan; Dover, NJ; Cleveland, Ohio; Morristown, Tenn.; and Wichita Falls, TX; and Hampton, VA.
The first Boeing 777 order was placed in 1990, and the first plane rolled out in 1994.
The 777 has six models — five passenger and one freighter (maximum takeoff weight of 766,800 pounds).
The 777 seats from 301 to 368 passengers in a three-class configuration with a range capability of 5,240 nautical miles to 9,395 nautical miles.
Since the first 777 entered service in June 1995, the airplane has flown almost five million flights and accumulated more than 18 million flight hours.
The 1000th Boeing 777 is a 300ER (extended range) model and will be delivered to Dubai-based Emirates in March.
To date, Boeing has recorded orders for 1,361 777s to 64 customers around the globe.
