Fastener manufacturer Javro Industrial Hardware Ltd. of Mississauga, Ontario, was fined $65,000 after pleading guilty to charges connected to the injury of a worker, according to Canada NewsWire.
In January 2007 a Javro employee was adjusting a radio located behind a single spindle automatic screw machine. The worker’s hair reportedly was caught in the unguarded rotating material, resulting in serious upper body injuries that required hospitalization.
Javro pleaded guilty to failing to provide proper guarding on the machine as required by provincial law.
In addition to the fine, the court imposed a 25% victim fine surcharge on the total.
Javro is a small machine shop business manufacturing items such as industrial fasteners, screw machine products and custom hardware. 2008 FastenerNews.com
