Jalopnic.com hosted an online Q&A session with the chief GM engineer of the 2014 Chevy Corvette.
“Powerfullier. Trackier. Yellower. And now with 100 percent more automatic transmissions. The 2015 Corvette Z06 is either the car of your dreams or your nightmares. Or both.”
“With 625+ horsepower and 635+ pound feet of torque, the numbers behind the new Corvette Z06 cannot be argued.”
In a far-ranging exchange between Corvette enthusiasts and its engineer — topics ranged from torque converters to automatic transmissions to, bizarre enough, cocaine — much of the criticism related to fasteners.
“Are there any more controversial fasteners in the world than the ones on the 2014 Corvette?” wrote Zac Estrada of Jalopnic under the headline “The C7 Fasteners Are Just Fine.” “Maybe the ones on the 2015 Corvette Z06?”
“The C7’s Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter graciously answered your questions today, and it probably shouldn’t be a surprise those damn things behind the door came up.”
“Why have you chosen to use exposed fasteners to attach the rear quarter panels?” one participant asked.
Another participant put it more bluntly: “Can we hide some of those fasteners better?”
Juechter responded: “Most of our customers really like those fasteners, because if you get in a minor fender bender, you can repair it with bolt on panels. Not fixing sheetmetal. Didn’t want to add weight to apply a cosmetic cover.”
