Emhart Requiring Suppliers Adopt Technology, Provide Global Delivery
John Wolz
Emhart Fastening Teknologies will retool its worldwide supplier network, requiring instant information and global delivery systems president Paul Gustafson announced.\ “Emhart is completing final transformation from a regional group of fastener operations to a global assembly systems company and we are asking our suppliers to mirror this change,” Gustafson said.
“Some metal producers lack the resources or willingness to make such fundamental changes, which is why we ultimately will reduce our supplier base.”
Supplier partners will be required to implement a six sigma program, have a cost of failure on a par with top manufacturers and annual productivity improvements to offset downward trends in fastener prices, Gustafson said.
New Haven, CT-based Emhart, a Black & Decker company, operates 24 plants, distributes in more than 100 countries and has annual sales exceeding $500 million. Web: emhart.com 2001 FastenerNews.com
