Doran Acquires Timberline Fasteners

John Wolz

Veteran manager Russell Doran has completed the purchase of Timberline Fasteners from the McCallin family, who has owned the Colorado-based business for 22 years. Newly formed RL Industries Inc. acquired substantially all of the assets of Timberline Fasteners, including trade names, in a transaction structured as an asset purchase.

Founded in 1923 as A&I Bolt and Nut, the company was renamed Timberline in 2000.

“The transaction will allow Timberline Fasteners to continue to fuel its growth in both its OEM and hardware/lumber markets, and with a strong financial partner in JPMorgan Chase, implement several new strategic initiatives,” Doran explained.

Having managed the business for 14 of the last 17 years, Doran noted that fastener distribution continues to be “an exciting entrepreneurial challenge in adding recognizable value and developing a brand around one of the more fundamental commodities of manufacturing and construction.”

Doran declared Timberline has the “capacity to grow our business several-fold, without infrastructure or organizational overhaul and that creates opportunity for everyone involved.”

Doran is only the third owner of the 84-year-old company. The R.J. Kremer family sold A&I to the McCallin family in 1985. Timberline Fasteners has been one of four operating entities under the Timberline Industries umbrella, with Dan McCallin as president and CEO of the holding company.

Timberline Fasteners is an ISO 9001 company with 50 employees operating out of an 80,000 sq ft warehouse at 6195 Clermont St., Commerce City, CO 80022. Timberline has stocking warehouses in Pueblo, CO, and La Crosse, WI, and sales offices in Grand Junction, CO, Salt Lake City, UT, and Farmington, NM.
