Columbus Fastener Show Postponed Until 2010

Citing the global economic crisis, show management postponed the upcoming National Industrial Fastener Show/East in Columbus, OH. The show, which was set for May 19-20, 2009, has been moved to May 25-26, 2010, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, according to the show’s website.

Show manager Susan Hurley was quoted as saying companies who’d already paid to exhibit at the 2009 show will be offered “full credit toward exhibit space in the 2009 West Show, the 2010 East Show or receive refunds.”

The 2008 Columbus show had struggled, with booths dropping to 164 from 221 the previous year, and the number of exhibitors falling to 146 from 205 in 2007. Overall registration was 1,167 — down from 1,224 in 2007 and 1,450 in 2006.

Exhibitors complained that the event had become a “regional show at national prices.” A 50.6% majority of distributor registrations in 2008 were from the host state of Ohio, and three-quarters were from Ohio plus four other Midwestern states.
The NIFS/East booth record is 653 in 1998 in Columbus.
