Cologne’s 2010 International Hardware Fair Attendance Down 10% to 56,500
The numbers were down for 2010 International Hardware Fair in Cologne.
Preliminary numbers show 56,500 trade visitors – down about 10% from the 2008 Hardware Fair.
Foreign visitors to the show in Germany totaled 59% – up 1% from 2008.
•The number of exhibiting companies dropped 20% from 3,360 to 2,686.
• German-based exhibiting companies fell 35% from 629 to 413. There were exhibitors from 52 countries.
Fastener+Fixing magazine editor Phil Matten reported the Hardware Fair’s longstanding strength in its Tools sector “is approaching virtual dominance, with over 2,000 exhibitors in the power and hand tool categories.”
• Asian exhibitors accounted for more than half led by 884 companies from China and 410 from Taiwan.
Fastener World, brought about 35 Taiwan fastener producers and traders – a quarter of the number at last October’s Fastener Fair Stuttgart.
The combined “ironmongery and fastening technology” categories totaled 498 exhibiting companies. Half of the 126 exhibitors in Hall 5.2 were industrial fastener or construction fixings specialists.
Matten noted that Italian producers “continued to be strongly represented” and “major German fastener and fixings suppliers were well represented albeit with notable omissions and, in a number of cases, scaled down stands.”
“Privately Koelnmesse product management acknowledged to one German screw producer that the growth of the industry-specific Fastener Fair Stuttgart, which featured 625 international exhibitors in October 2009, had substantially impacted fastener interest in the Cologne Hardware Fair,” Matten reported.
Several major fastener exhibitors in Hall 5.2 reported “satisfactory and often good daily results” One said he had “leads that would ensure attendance was cost effective for the UK based stainless steel small screw specialist.”
A German master distributor described results as “better than expected contacts in the first three days of the show.”
