City Approves Tax Abatement for Decker Mfg.
John Wolz
The Albion, MI, city council unanimously approved a 10-year tax abatement for a $329,000 expansion project at Decker Manufacturing Corporation. Decker employees about 100 in Albion.
Vice president Bernard Konkle Jr. told the Battle Creek Enquirer there “is potential for us to maybe add a couple of people” with the expansion, but it is mainly to ease crowded office space.
Decker’s taxes will be reduced by half to $164,500, for the expansion. The state must still agree to the abatement.
Peggy Sindt, president of the Albion Economic Development Corp., told the Battle Creek Enquirer that the abatement keeps the manufacturer in the city. “We can at least get 50% of something instead of 100% of zero,” Sindt explained.
