NIFS/West Total Registration

Numbers were mixed for the 2010 National Industrial Fastener Show/West show in Las Vegas.

• Total registration edged up 3.9% to 4,096 from 3,943 in 2009, according to show management figures. The NIFS registration record is 5,629 in 2007.

• At 1,033 the number of registered distributors fell just short of 2009’s 1,052. The West show distributor registration record was 1,577 in 2007. The NIFS high mark remains 1,733 in 1995 in Columbus, OH.

• Despite boosting its machinery section, the number of registered manufacturers slipped from 344 in 2009 to 329 this year.

• Other categories included 151 independent sales reps, 113 importers and 63 manufacturers’ reps.

• At 568 the number of exhibiting companies and 689 booths were up for 2010 trade show at Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Last year there were 497 companies with 602 booths. The NIFS record is 829 booths in 2007.

Booth numbers and registration may have been hurt this year by NIFS management’s scheduling of the show during the 34th annual Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association convention in Phoenix.

Numerous exhibitors had to use makeshift booths due to NIFS’ scheduling.

Next year NIFS is changing its name to National Industrial Fastener & Mill Supply Expo and moving the show to the Sands Expo in Las Vegas.

After scheduling its West show within two weeks of STAFDA for its first 14 years, NIFS is moving its date earlier to October 19-21, 2011.

Instead of a conflicting schedule with STAFDA in 2011, NIFS will compete for exhibitors by adding a tool section for such traditionally-STAFDA products as abrasives, air tools, cutting tools, drills, hand tools, safety and plant maintenance supplies.
