Barnes Closing More Distribution Centers
Barnes Closing More Distribution Centers
John Wolz
Barnes Distribution announced additional distribution center consolidations, cutting 40 jobs.
The Atlanta MRO distribution center will close by the end of 2001 and the Shelbyville, KY, location will cease distribution during the second quarter of 2002. The Shelbyville location will continue to serve as a procurement, bulk storage and re-packaging facility.
Barnes Distribution president Keith Drewet said “reducing our total number of distribution centers was a key value driver behind the Bowman/Curtis integration we initiated last year. The consolidation of distribution centers is an important step in completing our post-acquisition strategy.”
Following the implementation of this consolidation, Barnes Distribution will operate four distribution centers in the United States – Dallas, TX; Edison, NJ; Elizabethtown, KY; and Reno NV – down from 11 at the time of the Curtis acquisition.
Barnes projects a $2 million savings from the closings.
Employees at the affected facilities will be considered for positions at other Barnes locations. Employees choosing not to relocate will be offered a severance package.
