Jim Bannister of the Ohio-based National Industrial Fastener Shows was quoted around the world by the Associated Press, Fox News, Yahoo and other news sources.
Bannister, a retired U.S. Marine sergeant and the current commandant of the Belleau Woods-Columbus Marine Corps League Detachment, is seeking to raise $50,000 after 16 Ohio families lost their Marines in Iraq within weeks – including 11 from the Columbus-based reservist company. Bannister wants to raise the money by October to pay for members of the company to attend the marine ball in November.
“As the company’s casualties mounted the desire to help grew,” Bannister said at a picnic for the Marine company. “You could just sense it,” Bannister told the Associated Press. “There’s been a real outpouring of support.” E-mail: jim@Bannister.com 2005 FastenerNews.com
