ASTM International gave its 2004 Award of Merit and title of fellow to Andrew David McCrindle, a retired metallurgist with GenFast Manufacturing in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. It is ASTM”s highest recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.
McCrindle was chair of ASTM Committee F16 on Fasteners for six years. An ASTM International member since 1989, he received the 2003 Fred Weingruber Award for leadership in promoting F16 specifications.
Under his leadership F16 developed standards for fasteners not previously covered and improved key structural bolting standards. McCrindle also was involved in ASTM standards development for steel, stainless steel and related alloys and mechanical testing.
McCrindle is currently operations manager for the Canadian Fasteners Institute, which represents fastener manufacturers, and he is a member of fasteners committees in the Society of Automotive Engineers, ASME International, and the Standards Council of Canada.
