“How to Buy Fasteners” Offers Distributor Tips
Panelists will offer tips on “How to Buy Fasteners” for buyers for distributors during the third biennial Fastener Tech 11.
Panelists are: XL Screw vice president Wayne Wishnew, Rotor Clip vice president for sales Sara Mallo and Allstar Fasteners Inc. sales manager Bill Vodicka. FIN editor and publisher John Wolz will moderate the panel and give tips collected from around the industry.
Fastener Tech will be June 13-15, 2011, at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
Conferences and an opening reception are on Monday and the trade show is on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.
Mallo started in the fastener industry in 1981 as a receptionist in the Iowa branch of Earnest Machine Products.
Within a year Mallo was promoted to assistant customer service manager.
From 1984 to 1968 she was in outside sales with Global Fasteners & Supply. From 1989 to 1998 she was general manager for Meyer Retaining Ring. From 1999-2001 she was president of GF&D Systems and 2002-2005 national sales manager for GL Huyett. In 2005 she became director of sales for Rotor Clip Company and was promoted to vice president of sales in 2011.
Wishnew started working in XL Screw’s warehouse in 1978. He moved into the XL office working in inventory control and then started in sales. He next worked in the mill sales/purchasing department and was promoted to mill department manager.
His next promotion was to national sales manager in charge of stock and mill sales.
In 2005, Wayne was named vice president of XL Screw.
Vodicka started selling fasteners fulltime for Allstar 16 years ago. He had worked in the warehouse during high school and college for the company founded by his father, Al Vodicka, in 1977. Allstar manufactures screws and cold headed specials.
Before writing his first fastener articles for FIN in 1993, Wolz had been a reporter and editor for daily newspapers in Missouri, Texas and Colorado and for trade publications in New York.
Fastener Tech 11 also features conference sessions on Fastener Technology on Monday. Tuesday sessions will be on Heat Treating, Expanding Domestic Fastener Supply Base, Social Networking for Fastener Professionals, Distributor Strategies to Boost Sales & Efficiencies and a Simulation Roundtable.
The Women in the Fastener Industry meeting will be Wednesday.
“How to Buy Fasteners” will be 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Entrance to exhibits is free for those registering before June 3 and $50 after.
The National Fastener Distributors Association will sponsor the All Industry Reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The fastener trade show is co-located with SUR/FIN 2011, which is sponsored by the National Association for Surface Finishing.
