1995 FIN – Remembering When Imports Were Delivered at Night

Because of pressure against foreign competition, “a lot of distributors wanted me to deliver at night so that domestic manufacturers wouldn’t see what they were doing.”

1980 FIN – Carter Administration Sets Tariffs on Fasteners from India
The Department of Commerce, headed by Secretary of Commerce Philip Klutznick, determined that the government of India is providing bounties, or subsidies, equaling 18% of the f.o.b. value of certain fasteners exported to the U.S.

1982 FIN – Three-Year Duties on Imported Nuts, Bolts & Screws Expire
The Reagan Administration let the special duties on most imported nuts, bolts and screws made of iron and steel expire on January 6. 

1983 FIN – Commerce Department: Imported Fasteners Not a Threat
The Reagan Administration’s Commerce Department found that imported fasteners are not threatening to impair the domestic industry’s requirements in case of a national emergency and consequently no sanctions need to be placed on imported fasteners.

1991 FIN – U.S. Department of Commerce Eases Restrictions Against Chinese Dumping
The Department of Commerce, has decided, for the first time, to permit the use of the very low Chinese-government-set steel price into the calculation of the cost of manufacture of Chinese-produced fasteners.
