SFA Turns 50
November 21 marks 50 years since the formative meeting that created the Southwestern Fastener Association.
The initial meeting was held in 1974 at the La Baron Hotel in Dallas attended by 27 persons representing 20 companies. The organization was to be named the Texas Fastener Association. The original goal was to exchange ideas and experiences on successful business practices and techniques related to the fastener industry.
The first formal meeting held in January 1975 with 67 persons representing 50 companies in attendance. The first group changed the name to the Southwestern Fastener Association.
Membership includes distributors and distributor representatives, manufacturers and manufacturer representatives, importers, processors, technology and independent sales agents.
SFA executive director Becky Buddenbohn said the 50th anniversary has been marked at events throughout 2024, including the annual conference held in April in Fort Worth; Happy Hour events in Houston and Irving; a clay shoot, the association’s first Bed Build and canned food drive in the DFW area. Yet scheduled in 2024 is a toy drive in Houston December 12.
SFA officers for 2024 are president Brad Burel of Advanced Components; VP Chris Biguenet of Dallas Fastener; chairman Matt Flajnik of American Anchor Bolt Mfg.; and treasurer Christian Reich of Goebel Fasteners. Web: southwesternfastener.org
