1990 FIN – NFDA Announces Survey Results
October 30, 1990 FIN – A-Jax Co. CEO Mary Anne Baker announced the results of a survey of National Fastener Distributors Association members:
Average net sales – $5,700,000 per year.
Average sales per employee – $182,000.
50% of firms have multiple locations.
Average number of employees – 33 full time, one part time.
64% have employee policy manuals.
52% pay commissions to sales people based on sales volume alone.
29% pay on sales & gross profit combined.
70% have traditional 80/20 health coverage.
12% have PPO (Preferred Provider).
14% have HMO plan.
4% are self-insured.
100% offer hospital & surgical insurance.
30% offer long term disability.
91% offer life insurance.
47% offer dental insurance.
64% offer dependent coverage.
Commissions are charged back year end by 67% of the companies reporting.
45% report employee-owned cars for sales people.
Average length of employment for inside sales in 5 years.
Fringe benefits – 35% offer pension plans, 58% offer profit sharing plans, 56% offer year-end bonuses, 44% offer education/tuition assistance and 35% offer 401K plans.
