2009 FIN – First Fastener Fair Held in 1995 in England
Editor’s Note: The following Fastener Fair history was provided by show organizer Jerry Ramsdale in 2009:
The Fastener Fair now organizes three exhibitions, the first took place in October 1995 at Castle Donington in the East Midlands of England.
Jerry Ramsdale, organizer of the exhibition, at that time had a small wholesale business in the UK selling socket screws to the trade, and was looking to expand his business and look for new customers, but there was no exhibition targeting the fastener distribution industry.
Knowing a few people in the fastener industry, he decided to launch and organize the Fastener Fair.
The first exhibition was the hardest to organize, with a steep learning curve and only 27 exhibitors, but thousands of visitors. With the ratio of visitors to exhibitors, it was the best exhibition ever for those who took part.
The exhibition grew and in 2005 the first Fastener Fair Stuttgart, in Germany was launched. Exhibitors of raw material, fastener production machinery, coatings, product manufacturers and distributors of construction fixings and industrial fasteners.
Germany, with its strong economy is in central Europe and the country in which many companies from around the world want to trade.
In 2008 another important show for the future of Fastener Fair was launched in Budapest, Hungary. Eastern Europe is seen as a major source for growth in Europe over the next five years.
In October 2009 Fastener Fair Stuttgart moves into its new home, at the new Messe Stuttgart, adjacent to the Airport, a completely new build and the most modern trade venue in Europe.
Fastener Fair Stuttgart has for the International fastener and fixing industry become the Gateway to Europe. In 2007 the exhibitor numbers more than doubled over 2005, from 198 to 435 attending from 32 countries. Exhibitor numbers are still growing, with over 600 exhibiting in 2009.
