Hillman Closing NY Distribution Center

Bracing for a prolonged recession, fastener distributor Hillman Group will close its distribution center at the Island Park industrial complex in Green Island, NY, laying off about 40 workers, the Albany Times Union reports.
“We’re anticipating things to get worse, as opposed to better, and before business starts to deteriorate, we thought we’d take action early,” CEO Max Hillman stated.
Hillman has operated in Green Island since early 2003, when it moved its Guilderland distribution operation to a newly constructed 56,000-square-foot building on Cohoes Avenue.
“(CEO Max) Hillman said he is shifting the distribution operations here back to Cincinnati in anticipation of reduced orders from customers, which include home-improvement giants Lowe’s and Home Depot, and retailers Kmart and Sears,” writes Cathy Woodruff of the Times Union.
Cincinnati-based Hillman Group sells to hardware stores, home centers, pet suppliers, mass merchants and other retail outlets in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America. The company employs about 2,000 workers in the U.S. Web: hillmangroup.com 2009 FastenerNews.com
