ASQ Offers New Quality Standard
ASQ Offers New Quality Standard
John Wolz
The American Society for Quality is offering the new edition of the worldwide standard for quality management systems, ISO 9001:2008.
The new edition replaces the 2000 version currently implemented in 170 countries. ISO 9001 is used to increase confidence in products and services by certified organizations and provide a framework for organizations to evaluate their quality systems.
“By implementing a QMS, organizations can achieve consistent processes, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement,” ASQ president Roberto Saco said. “In addition, QMS systems work to remove those processes that aren”t customer or ISO requirements, thus increasing efficiency.”
With the publication of the revision, companies certified to ISO 9001:2000 have 24 months to transition to ISO 9001:2008.
