Indian Producer Nearly Doubles Fastener Capacity
Jason Sandefur
Indian stainless producer Viraj Profiles is expanding its fastener manufacturing capacity to 60,000 tons per year from 36,000 tons, Metal Bulletin reports.
The move is part of Viraj’s efforts to expand its overall operations. The company is reportedly set to buy an Indonesian nickel mine to feed the ferro-nickel plant it is planning in Tarapur, India, near Mumbai.
Viraj currently manufactures 300,000 tons of stainless steel long products, with plans to add capacity for 850,000 tons per year of stainless steel flat products.
The company plans to set up a 150-ton melt shop, 180-ton electric arc furnace and a slab caster. 2008 FastenerNews.com
