Sundram Opens New $7.6m Facility

India’s Sundram Fasteners Ltd. has begun commercial production at its new $7.6 million fastener manufacturing facility in Pantnagar in northern India.
Sundram set up the factory to manufacture high tensile fasteners, powder metal parts, water pumps and oil pumps. The company said the facility would serve such local customers as Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Mahindra and Mahindra.
In October Sundram revealed it is looking to spend up to $80 million to acquire a North American auto components manufacturer. Sundram seeks to improve its technology by acquiring a company in the Motor City. The company already has a sales office and warehouse outside Detroit.
Chennai, India-headquartered Sundram has manufacturing plants in India, Germany, the UK and China and an assembly operation in Malaysia.
Sundram manufactures high tensile fasteners and automotive and engineering components and is ISO 9000, ISO 14001 and TS 16949 certified. The company reported sales totaling Rs 337.55 crore (US$85.7m) for the second quarter of 2007. Web: sundram.com �2007 FastenerNews.com
