14-Year Fastener Worker Dies From Jobsite Injuries

A veteran fastener manufacturer employee died after getting trapped in a chip-spinning machine.
Randall Puppe, 56, of specialty fastener maker TCR Engineered Components in Brooklyn Center, MN, died from “mechanical strangulation and blunt-force injuries,” the Associated Press reports.
“We don’t know how this happened. We’re very puzzled by it,” company president Mike Rott told AP. “It’s tragic. I don’t know how else to say it.”
A TCR employee since 1993, Puppe was cleaning an oil reclamation machine when the device’s four-foot steel lid was activated, crushing him, according to AP. The incident is under investigation by both the local police and state Occupational Safety and Health division.
Founded in 1953 as a rivet manufacturer, TCR has 140 employees working at its 140,000 sq ft facility in Minnesota. TCR makes more than 600 products for the automotive, industrial/commercial, hydraulic, and recreation industries. Web: tcr-corp.com �2007 FastenerNews.com
