Russia, Ukraine Fastener Production Drops in 2006

Russian threaded fastener production fell 9% in 2006, Metiz magazine reported. Production fell from 142.115 tons in 2005 to 130,031 tons for 2006.
Production for most steel products rose 14%, Metiz estimated. Steel cord belt was up 24% and wire netting 14%.
Ukrainian production of machine building fasteners fell 21% from 2,541 tons in 2005. Nail production dropped 25% from 26,312 tons to 19,773 tons.
Ukraine’s overall steel hardware production was static year on year. Low carbon wire production was up 4% to 240,660 tons, but most other categories were down.
Ukrainian hardware exports to Russia fell by 35% during 2006, Metiz reported. Exports to other countries increased, including a 60% jump in product shipped to Germany and a doubling of shipments to Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. �2007 FastenerNews.com and Fastener & Fixing Europe
