Roseman to Keynote at FastenerTech 07

Joel Roseman of Arnold Industries Inc. will present the “State of the Fastener Industry” keynote address at Fastener Tech 07. The all-industry event also offers 13 educational sessions in addition to a fastener trade show during the June 25-27, 2007, events at Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. Roseman will be president of the National Fastener Distributors Association.

Fastener Tech, sponsored by 10 fasteners and trade associations and publications, also includes a two-day trade show, networking and social events for manufacturers, distributors and fastener users.

The full day fastener manufacturing seminar presented by Fastener Technology International includes: “Fastener Facts & Manufacturing Fundamentals”, Jeff Hepner of Telefast Industries and the National Fastener Distributors Association, and Steve Vass, retired fastener engineer; “Fundamentals of Cold Forming,” Kevin Hughes, Carpenter Technology Corporation; “Cold Forming Machinery,” Jerry Bupp, National Machinery LLC; “Thread Rolling,” Adam Kettles, Precision Tool Group; “Tooling & Process Simulation, John Walters, Scientific Forming Technologies Corp.; “Testing & Gaging, Mike Nygaard, General Inspection; and “Fastener Coating Applications,” including chemical locking and sealing, assembly retention, lubrication and thread production, Nilo Urbani, Nylok..

A “Torque-Tension Training Seminar,” a part of the Los Angeles Fastener Association Certified Fastener Specialist program, will be presented by Joe Greenslade, Industrial Fasteners Institute, and Carmen Vertullo, SimplyBetter.

The “Lab Accreditation Seminar” will be presented by the American Association for Lab Accreditation with instructor Fred Fetterolf of A2LA. Topics include common deficiencies seen by A2LA assessors. There will be a panel discussion with Q&A.

Tuesday

Aztech Locknut will present a “Locknut Training Certification Seminar” taught by Vince Cartina of Aztech.

FastenerNews.com will present a luncheon and conference on “How to Export.” FIN’s program will include panelists discussing opening branches in Mexico and China; a Department of Commerce speaker on federal exporting programs and regulations; and a report on exporting to Europe by Fastener & Fixing Europe.

A “Lean Conference” will be presented by Fastener Technology International, with Joe Cappello speaking on “Getting Started on the Road to Lean,” and S Manivannan of Ford Motor on “Lean: Mistake Proofing.”

Wednesday

“Heat Treating & High-Strength Steel Fasteners” seminar by the ASM Heat Treating Society: “Fundamentals of Heat Treating Steel” and “Hydrogen Embrittlement of Fasteners,” Richard Sisson Jr., Worcester Polytechnic Institute; and “Important Issues in Heat Treating Steel Fasteners,” by Daniel Herring, Herring Group Inc.

“Metal Finishing Seminar” by the Chicago Metal Finishers Institute: “Recent Global Regulatory Developments for Coatings,” Christian Richter, The Policy Group; “Coatings Challenges for Defense, Aerospace & Commercial Fasteners,” Keith Legg, Rowan Technology; and “Emerging Trends in Coatings for Fasteners,” Craig Bishop, Atotech.

The educational sessions range from free to $295.
Exhibits will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The Midwest Fastener Association will host an “All-Industry Reception” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, and a dinner cruise Wednesday evening.

Fastener Tech 07 is a new event and similar in format to the 2005 Fastener Week concept that brought fastener distributors and manufacturers together in Rosemont. Beyond a traditional distribution-oriented show, organizers are marketing the trade show to distribution, manufacturing and importing.
