Wire exhibitors were busy at Wire China 2006, but fastener interest was limited, Fastener & Fixing Europe editor Phil Matten reported from the September show in Shanghai.
Wire exhibitors occupied two and a half of four halls, totaling 40,000 sq meters, with Tube China the remainder.
There were 923 exhibitors at the second joint event held in Shanghai, co-organized by Messe Dsseldorf GmbH and the Metallurgical Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. The organizers estimate 30,000 trade visitors, from China and abroad attended.
“Interest for fastener industry visitors was limited,” Matten observed. Sakumura, Carlo Salvi and Asahi Sunac offered heading equipment, but none had machines on display. Wafios display only wire forming equipment.”
Salvi has a significant population of machines in China, mainly relocated from Europe, including a large concentration at Textron”s Wuxi plant, Matten noted. Chinese fastener factories are generally equipped with either Taiwanese equipment or low-cost local machines a 1 die, 2 blow 5mm header can cost little more than $10,000. National Machinery did not exhibit, but plans to open a service center in Souzhou, China later this year.
Other fastener specific exhibitors included Brankamp process monitors, Danish rotary nail machine maker Enkotec and Taiwan”s Accuvision inspection systems, punch maker Sala Punzoni.
A small group of Korean fastener manufacturers in Hall 2 included automotive specialist Youngsin, over 80% of whose estimated $48m sales are dedicated to GM Daewoo, Hyundai and Kia Motors.
