Minebea To Boost Capacity
Minebea To Boost Capacity
Jason Sandefur
Tokyo aerospace fastener manufacturer Minebea Co. plans to invest about 1 billion yen (US$8.6 million) to rebuild its Fujisawa plant and increase capacity by 50%, according to the Nikkei Report.
Minebea holds about 60% of the market in Japan. But nearly all of its sales come from Japan’s defense agency, prompting the company to push into the private aerospace market. Minebea anticipates rising demand as manufacturers like Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. build factories to help produce the next generation of Boeing passenger plane, Nikkei reports.
Reconstruction is slated for completion in 2008 and includes new machining equipment to enhance small lot production and cut deliver time by 50%. Current delivery time is about two months.
With annual sales of about 7 billion yen (US$60 million), Minebea aims to broaden its sources of revenue and expand sales to 10 billion yen over the next several years. Web: minebea.co.jp 2006 FastenerNews.com
