Attendance Up at Europe’s Practical World

A 60% increase in South American visitors plus 26% more coming from the U.S. and 20% more from Asia boosted overall attendance at the 2006 International Hardware Fair / Practical World in Kln (Cologne), Germany.
Preliminary numbers from show management peg attendance at just under 75,000, a “slight improvement” from the last Practical World in 2004.
A 53% majority came to Germany from 140 countries. Oliver Kuhrt, Koelnmesse’s executive vice president, pointed out that “there is a new stream of visitors to Cologne from eastern Europe.”
More than three-quarters of the 3,491 exhibitors came from 58 countries outside host Germany.
There were around 250 exhibitors in the fastener hall plus Asian fastener suppliers in a separate hall.
Phil Matten, editor of Fastener & Fixing Europe reported that snow and the absence of fastener brand leaders such as Fischer, ABC Spax, Bosch and Metabo hosting hospitality events, rising costs and the rival Soccer World Cup in Germany deterred some visitors. However, “key competitors Mungo, Sormat and Tox were notable with high-impact stands,” Matten reported.
Practical World is held in even-numbered years with the next trade show March 9-12, 2008 in Kln. Web: hardwarefair.com 2006 FastenerNews.com and Fastener & Fixing Europe
