Joe Bhatia is the new president and CEO of the American National Standards Institute following a global search for a successor to retiring Mark Hurwitz. Bhatia was executive vice president and COO of Underwriters Laboratories Inc.
Search committee chair John Bergen noted that Bhatia “has a strong business background and a high level of comfort in the volunteer-driven, not-for-profit world. He has a strong knowledge ANSI and is well known within the standardization and conformity assessment communities, within the government sphere, and on the international business scene.”
During his 35-year tenure with Underwriters Laboratories, Bhatia held positions involving engineering, governmental and external affairs, certification services and, most recently, direction of UL’s
$300+ million international operations.
