Textron Fastening Systems Inc. is opening a plant in Wuxi, China, to supply engineered fasteners to Chinas booming electronics, technology and automotive markets. Slated to open at the end of March, the approximately 42,000 sq ft facility will produce 60 million to 80 million fasteners per month and employ about 55 people, announced CEO Jake Hirsch.
China will be one of our principal growth markets for the balance of the decade and beyond, Hirsch noted.
He added that the domestic China auto industry has an annual 15% growth rate, reaching 3.2 million units in 2002. The plant is located about 80 miles east of Shanghai in Jiangsu province, and will produce TFS products such as Avdel and Camcar fasteners. The plant is TFS first production facility in China and is reportedly the first Chinese factory to produce both blind and threaded fasteners. Troy, MI-based TFS is a Textron Inc. division that supplies engineered fasteners and assembly technology to customers in 75 countries. Web: textronfasteningsystems.com 2003 FastenerNews.com
