Emhart Names Design Contest Winners

Jason Sandefur

Emhart Teknologies announced the winners of its national Create the Future design contest. The winning prize was given for a low-friction rotary pinion gear set design for use in golf carts and utility and small electric vehicles. The design was created by Frederick Vreeman of Orlando, FL, who won a 2003 Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle. The gear set was one of 1,100 entries submitted by engineers, students and the general public.
Emhart presented two first prize awards to Robert Frantz of Oklahoma City, OK, and Charles Weber of Onalaska, WI. Frantz designed a vehicle undercarriage search system to detect explosives or weapons, and Weber designed an air inversion fan that redistributes cool air. Both were awarded Segway Transporters.
New Haven, CT-based Emhart is a Black & Decker company that designs assembly technologies. Web: emhart.com 2003 FastenerNews.com
