1990 FIN – Tapper Creates Buchanan Metal Forming From Acquisition
September 28, 1990 FIN – Buchanan Metal Forming Inc. is the name of a new company which will be headed by a well-known fastener industry veteran.
Tapper Manufacturing Corp.of Auburn Hills, Michigan, headed by Richard Tapper, acquired the Metal Products Division of Woodstock Manufacturing and established Buchanan Metal Forming as a separate business unit.
Tapper is chairman of the new Buchanan, Michigan, unit, and William “Bill” MacIntyre will handle the day-to-day operations.
MacIntyre was most directly vice president of MNP Corp., a position he held for 11 years. MacIntyre’s 40-year career in the fastener industry includes prior positions as executive vice president at Bristol Industries and various posts at what is now the Microdot C.
Two longtime employees of the former company have been promoted. Ed Bradley has been named vice president and general manager, and Fred Oppenhuisen is chief engineer.
Buchanan Metal Forming produces cold forged (not cold formed) parts from 1/2 in. to 3 in. diameters up to 16 in. long in all kinds of carbon steel.
The company uses a high pressure, cold forging process to produce large parts mainly for the agricultural distribution markets and some automotive aftermarkets. Items include threaded blade bolts, which end up in combines or mowers.
The company’s manufacturing facility is located at 103 West Smith St., Buchanan, MI 49107. Corporate offices are located in Auburn Hills, Michigan. ©1990/2014 Fastener Industry News.
