Sims Next ASME President

Robert Sims Jr., senior engineering fellow at Becht Engineering Co. Inc., has been elected the 133rd president of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for a one-year term beginning July 2014.

Sims has been a member of ASME for 33 years and is an authority on risk-based technologies. Prior to joining Becht in 1998, Sims was with Exxon for 30 years.

Sims is a fellow of ASME, a recipient of the Society’s Dedicated Service Award, the Taylor Codes & Standards Medal, and the Green Codes and Standards Medal (2006). He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Vanderbilt University.

Founded in 1880, ASME is a not-for-profit professional organization with 130,000 members worldwide. ASME fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing and skill development across all engineering disciplines, while promoting the vital role of the engineer in society.
