Dyson Founded in 1884
Dyson was founded in 1884 in Cleveland, Ohio by Joseph Dyson, an English blacksmith, to make iron and steel forgings for engines, street cars and other equipment.
The company was later purchased by Bardons & Oliver, a leather maker and was a captive shop for a number of years.
The company then came under the ownership and direction of Margaret Oliver and Robert H. Collacott and their family. Dyson prospered under their direction through the next decades and through two generations. Descendants May Targett and Catherine DeWitt owned the company at the time of purchase.
Presently, all three divisions operate out of one 100,000 sq ft facility with Dyson employing about 120 people. The Fastener division, a hot forge operation, produces bolts in sizes from 5/8 inch and up, while the Dependable division produces fasteners below 1-1/2 inch.
The company markets directly to distributors in the commercial fastener business and also through manufacturer representatives.
Dyson has appointed the following representatives: Fred Buckner, of FLB Industries is the representative for Texas. Don Coar , will represent the company in Florida. Harley Clevenger, of Clevenger and Associates, will represent the company in North and South Carolina.
